The Park Orchards Country Club Estate failed to attract buyers, and it took demand for land and housing in the 1950s to start real building. Is my house on the sewer yet?
Many homes are not yet. Yarra Valley Water has started design work to bring piped sewerage to many Park Orchards properties, and each will get either a gravity or pressure sewer connection point. Until then owners keep maintaining their septic systems, and a blockage call is likely to involve the tank, outfall or absorption trench.
Does roof plumbing on the old chalet need a permit?
It may. The former clubhouse is in Manningham's heritage overlay as the only building of the failed country club estate to survive, a Spanish Mission building with a terracotta tile roof. Changing its gutters, downpipes or roof plumbing may need a planning permit, and the tiles need careful access.
Where does stormwater go when there is no kerb?
Often onto open ground, because many streets here never had kerb or underground drains. Manningham has been adding drains with kerb and channel to deal with nuisance flooding, and once a street has them the legal point of discharge is confirmed before new downpipes are joined in.
